Technical background

Twenty-five years of hands-on technical work. Identity administration, access review, infrastructure migration, hardware repair, structured cabling, and live production. Most of it runs alongside the business history on the About page rather than after it.

Endpoint and hardware support

I ran Home and Pro Studio from 2006 to 2025. Apple device refurbishment and resale was the core of it for nineteen years. The work covered intake diagnostics, hardware repair and component replacement, drive wiping and data sanitization, OS imaging and deployment, QA, and post-sale support. Windows, macOS, and iOS.

Networks and infrastructure

I was doing low-voltage and network work before Home and Pro Studio, and I kept doing it alongside the hardware business for the next twenty years. It stayed a steady side piece rather than a separate line of work.

  • Wiring Concepts, 1998 to 2001. Low-voltage wiring, network cabling, and in-store IT systems as a technician across national retail locations.
  • Kinect Technologies, 2002 to 2004. Founded and ran it. Low-voltage cabling, phone, and IT systems for national retailers including JCPenney and Old Navy, with multi-site rollouts covering scheduling, technicians, materials, and site handoff.
  • School wifi installations, and ongoing support for a small school network over several years.
  • Network updates and ongoing support across two buildings for a performance sailboat manufacturer.
  • Migration of that manufacturer's on-premises file server to Microsoft 365 and SharePoint. The outgoing IT provider withheld the file structure and the credentials, so I recovered the full server contents from a VMware backup. The resulting SharePoint environment holds sensitive financial documents and carries the file path between CAD workstations and the CNC machines on the plant floor.

A/V and presentation technology

I worked in professional live sound, lighting, and video production for two decades. I volunteered as an A/V tech at Willow Creek Community Church, mostly producing large workshop events. During Covid I specified, sourced, and deployed a live streaming system for a church in Johnsburg, IL, built on a Blackmagic ATEM switcher with an upgraded Mac workstation and integrated with the existing cameras and audio.

Identity and systems administration

I administer Microsoft 365 and Entra ID tenants for business clients. The work covers user and license provisioning, onboarding and offboarding, and access group configuration. I do the same in Google Workspace through the Admin Console, including user accounts, groups, sharing permissions, and license review.

Security and access review

Security work runs through most of what I do rather than sitting apart from it. I manage security for every client site I build and maintain.

  • Called in several times to investigate Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace breaches, and to run audits.
  • Authorization audit of a production system that turned up two critical access-control defects, both fixed, followed by a tracked remediation sweep across roughly 40 remaining views.
  • Remediation of a destructive IDOR across three serverless endpoints using server-side JWT verification, followed by a full credential rotation.
